Church Volunteering

Members can serve with a wide array of gifts and talents in different ministry areas. See our ministries below if you are interested in what volunteering looks like with Crossroads! If you’re a member who has ideas for how you could serve, or if you want to know more about a specific ministry or role, please use our contact form.

Worship

Worship Ministry Directors Todd and Jenee O’Connor are glad to connect with members who wish to serve at Sunday morning worship services! See opportunities below and our Adult Music Ministry Calendar 2024-2025 for dates involving various choirs, instrumental ensembles, and handbells.

  • Choir: Are you passionate about worship and singing? During the program year, the Worship Choir rehearses twice monthly to prepare interested singers to lead worship once a month. Additional opportunities abound in the seasonal Festival Choir, the preschool/Kindergarten Cherub Choir, and grades 1-5 Joyful Noise Children’s Choir.
  • Worship Teams and Vocal Ensembles: Leading on instruments and vocal mics one-to-a-part requires skill and a heart for God. Assigned groups rehearse on a Wednesday or Thursday night before a Sunday service. All Youth are also welcome, and often lead their peers on Sunday nights!
  • Instrumentals: Brass, strings, and woodwinds are incorporated in creative ways on Sundays, including as duos, trios, and all the way up to full orchestras. Rehearsals are called as assigned for youth and adults of all abilities.
  • Handbells: The Chancel Ringers are a committed group that rehearses select Tuesdays during the program year and plays in a wide variety of styles.
  • Readers and Liturgists: A team of those who can read, write, and lead prayers, Scripture, and special moments during worship services is important to the worship ministry.
  • Audiovisual Team: Do you have a gift for technology or photography? Our A/V team seeks reliable team players to help with camera operation and slide projection. Ask to be connected with Steve Carpenter if you’re interested.
  • Other Opportunities: Ushers and greeters, the Connections and Safety Teams, sanctuary decorators, and other roles are all part of making Sunday morning happen for our worshipping community!

Hospitality

We want every person, visitor and member alike, to always feel welcomed and invited into the life of our vibrant community. There are several volunteer roles that Crossroads offers to foster attentiveness toward others:

  • Greeters: Welcome members and visitors alike to Sunday worship and special events with a neighborly attitude and word. Invite a friend to join you, or bring your entire family to welcome folks to the church.
  • Coffee Crew: Serve coffee and treats in the Gathering Area after worship services and during other events.
  • Welcome Center: Staff the Welcome Center before and after worship services to assist in welcoming visitors and providing info to worshipers.  Take-home visitor welcome bags are available at the Welcome Center.
  • Kitchen Helpers: Have fun in the kitchen with food prep, table setting, serving, and cleaning up after the meal. Contact Kitchen & Event Coordinator Julie Bliesner to know what’s coming up to see where you can help!
  • Host Families: Members are encouraged to sign up as hosts to new members. This involves actively inviting them to church activities, having them over for dinner, and however else host members wish to deepen their relationships to new members and foster their connection to Crossroads.

Operations

Because our church campus has so much to offer, it requires a significant amount of upkeep and maintainance. Volunteers have a wide selection of opportunities to help in this area—indoors and outdoors:

  • Building and Grounds Ministry: Oversee the care and maintenance of the church facilities and grounds, including spring and fall outdoor clean-ups.
  • Safety Team: Volunteers for this team ensure that everyone in our church can be helpe in case of a medical, weather, or other emergency. Anyone over 21 can volunteer with training provided and flexible schedules.
  • Beautification Crew: Maintain the church flower gardens with planting and weeding in the spring, summer, and fall. Meets on Tuesday mornings at 8:30 a.m.
  • IT Team: Assist with various hardware and software issues around the church with our AV setup, security system, server room, and more.
  • Office Helpers: Sometimes our staff needs help in the office. You can contribute to various projects and duties, such as answering phone calls, copying and collating papers, data entry, and mailing. Flexible commitment times.
  • Money Counters: Prepare the previous week’s collections for deposit and record all monies so we can give members proper credit for donations. Inquire via the contact form for scheduled times.
  • SHED Team: Construction, woodmaking, and mechanical skills come in handy with the SHED Team! Not only do they assist with repairs to furniture and equipment around the church, but also create structures for special events like Vacation Bible School and the Advent season. There are also opportunities to serve members and others outside the church with repair and renovative needs.

Adults

At Crossroads, we want to foster leadership and discipleship experience in members beyond our elders and deacons. If you feel called to teach or facilitate an ongoing (or new!) course, contact our Adult Ed ministry team. We also encourage adults and youth to visit the Missions page for opportunities to serve with local/domestic partners.

Youth

There are many opportunities for students to serve at Crossroads and in our local communities. Youth are especially encouraged to bring their gifts and talents to areas like the Worship Team, Audio-Visual (AV) Team, and Children’s ministries (Wednesday nights and Sunday mornings).

Adult members can serve in our Youth Ministry by teaching Sunday school, leading Wednesday night Bible studies, or helping lead youth worship. Most positions require about 2-3 hours of commitment each week from September to May.

Whether you are a youth or adult member, contact Middle School Coordinator Maddy Hosni or Youth Ministry Director Tanya Naas for more info about volunteering opportunities.

Children

The Children & Family Ministry is always looking for high school youth and adults who feel called to serve our youngest disciples with Sunday mornings, midweek evenings, Vacation Bible School (VBS), and a variety of one-time activities. Whether you feel called to lead Children’s Worship, assist with childcare, or help sunday school teachers, contact Children and Family Ministry Director Christa Middleton. Registration and details for VBS volunteering can be found on the Children & Family page in the early spring. If you’re interested in assisting with teaching or childcare for Preschool, contact Preschool Director Maureen Leurquin.

We have a thorough vetting process and strict standards in place to protect children for first-time and returning volunteers. You can read about our security measures and Child Protection Policy to better understand our prioritization of child safety.
